PF2e 15 - Wicked King's Casino pt 2
Wrapping up the casino job this week, and it sure Went. They rested at the end of last session, and in the time between sessions, I rolled on my Transmission table and got…
The same thieves who they captured.
So I bumped them up to Elite (hey they levelled up at the end of the day), and then they just blasted their way out of jail and blew a hole in the casino to access to the pit boss’ office. The party, coming down from their hotel room from the commotion. Magnus strode across the casino floor, succeeding on his Will Save from the casino’s influence, and got to work breaking down the door. Sprii took a shot at it from the safety of the entryway, chilling the lock, making it easier to break. Her and Beedee didn’t want to risk crossing the casino floor, so they took time to loop around the exterior.
Sprii did this because they had the Stupefied status effect, as a result of failing two saving throws on the casino floor a day ago, and were feeling compelled to gamble.
Magnus went in, down the stairs, and saw the three thieves trying to break into the vault of the casino.
He was able to get a surprise round (stealth vs passive perception), and then got a turn before BD arrived, and another before Sprii arrived. He targeted the caster with two shots from his Splintering Shortbow, chunking it well. The Musketeer (sans pistol) came up to try to hit him but whiffed. During that turn alone, he did decent damage and survived well enough.
Because I forgot to mark the doors as locked to the vault (There was a double door, airlock style system), i decided to just leave it, and the Ogre Warrior just went to hackin’ the doors, because clearly, nobody leaves a vault unlocked even though it’s under a hidden doorway and shit. Until round 2, they didn’t know it was open. I mainly wanted an easier way to get to the real boss of the encounter, a Necrohusk, a level 5 undead that’s an amalgamation of different things. This one though had an aura around it giving it Damage Resist 10. This was from the crown. The Ogre gets into the vault, and got blitzed by that Necrohusk, taking two crits on its first turn.
Magnus was the first to learn of the damage resistance, and noticed where it was coming from (hooray Thaumaturge “I know monsters” info): the crown that was siphoning luck and forcing the compulsion.
So with the party all here, instead of dealing with the crown, they brute force their way through the Necruhusk.
shrug
They put the crown in the lead lined box they were given, but when they touched it it tried to convince Beedee to put it on. He passed the Will save and resisted the general offer. Sad. They dipped out of the hole in the casino wall before shit got too noisy with the guard and the casino owner and pit boss returning, but this led to them being nearly arrested upon returning home. More on that in a second.
On the trip home, they passed by a place that had been Metalized, and they noted it on their way in, and that it was sort of slowly fading. This was like an early attempt or practice at the process. This time, the grass was more wilted and less silver, and Magnus noticed a slight bit of magic that was the same shade as the crown and the magic surrounding the necrohusk. They deduced that the Necromancer has also been able to charge items as well as creatures as a means of spreading the Metalizing influence. (Correct).
Upon returning to Arlon, they went to the Martial Court to seek out the person who hired them. Upon arrival they were questioned by the guard at the desk, and were told to surrender into their custody, as they were suspects in a burglary. They stood their ground, as more guards came in to surround them. The guy behind the counter was like “see we have no record of your job” and fanned out a bunch of papers, one clearly showing that they were under contract. Intimidate check from Magnus crushed the DC and they backed off long enough for them to slip out, but as they broke the circle, the head Adjudicator, that hired them, walked into the building. They got escorted to the office and debriefed.
Because of their slaying of a demon on top of recovering the crown and the info about the grass, they were given additional payment.
And there we go! The transmission was a huge success and I definitely will be using it more for more open ended missions. It ruled to come up with things on the fly.
Next, I think I want a little more deliberately planned session, just to get them back on the Hunt the Necromancer trail. Nobody is going to the library though! It’s incredible! There’s a library of all these ancient texts and they’re like “nah”.
So now I need to almost force a mission on them to get something that might help combat the metallic menace.
